The Cat God

The Cat God

Dungeon Quest – Final Boss Fight

Update 1.3, the Cat God

The Cat God is the signature quest for the Halloween, 2012 event.  The quest requires full completion of the other story line quests.  You can find this quest back at Madame Roget in Kingsmouth (but it is not visible until unlocked).

The Cat God Step 1, Enter the Portal

The quest immediately updates to “Stop the summoning ritual.”

Stonehenge, remembered has a series of werecats outside with the Cat God inside.  Fight off the werecats to activate the Cat God.  The werecats have a rather vicious column attack, Overrun, but it is easily avoided or impaired.

Approximately every 25% health, the Cat God goes invulnerable and the werecats come back.  The dangerous attacks from the Cat God are a pair of cone attacks “the Clawed Earth” and “Many Mouths,” but these are both easily avoided or impaired.  His other major attack, “From the Dark Sidhe” is a knockback, but not particularly dangerous.

At 50%, you have to fight several werecats simultaneously, be careful.  There is a reason this is a 5-group dungeon.  If your gearing is low (e.g. QL5 ish), you will need a full group.  Otherwise a duo is more than enough (for reference, we’re running Q10 green gear in the video).

Spoiler:
When you finish the kill, Baron Samedi shows himself and gives you more information on what is to come.   Thanks to Walter Enterich for the information.

She of Woe

She of Woe

Shadowy Forest Lair Boss

Post 1.2 Upgrade Guide

The She of Woe is a lair boss in the Shadowy Forest.  Her summoning pattern is linked to the Spoils of Cold War lair quest.  As with all lair bosses, She of Woe received a substantial overhaul in the 1.2 content update, Digging Deeper.  This guide reflects changes in the 1.2 content patch.

The She of Woe is a padurii mob similar to those encountered during the Anastasia quests in the Shadowy Forest.  The She features mechanics common to Padurii mobs, specifically the summoned wisps that heal her.

The She of Woe features the Cleansing Cantrip mechanic, in which she cleanses any negative effects and additionally places a defensive barrier on herself that prevents large amounts of damage from coming in.  We recommend the use of a purge during this stage to negate the barrier.

More importantly, She of Woe also summons wisp adds.  During normal Padurii fighting, these adds have to be separated from the Padurii using impairs, hinders or outright yanks like that from Chaotic Pull.  We did not have an opportunity to see if that would work on She of Woe.  However, the barrier effect that She places will occasionally drop.  If DPS focus fires, the wisps can be dropped quickly during this time.

Overall, though, the barriers can be beaten down and the heal from the wisps can be overdamaged.  Thus, the fight is just long, but not deadly.

Summoning information for She of Woe

  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Kappa 02]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Epsilon 04]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Upsilon 08]

  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Sigma 01]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Rho 08]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Upsilon 05]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Rho 02]

Note, we did not have hinders, impairs or yanks for this fight.  So, while the fight took longer than necessary we were able to overcome the mechanics.

Avatar of the Creep

Avatar of the Creep

Shadowy Forest Lair Boss

Post update 1.2 Guide

The Avatar of the Creep is a lair boss located in the Shadowy Forest of the Secret World.  The summoning pattern for this boss is linked to the Seedy Underbelly lair quest.  As with all lair bosses, the Avatar of the Creep received an overhaul in content update 1.2, Digging Deeper.  This guide covers the updated version of the Avatar of the Creep.

The Avatar of the Creep is a corrupted creature category of monster, similar to those found in the various Iele quests in the Shadowy Forest.  Expect plenty of ground targeted aoe’s and cone attacks during this fight.  Move out of the targeted damage area whenever possible, particularly those with low hit points.

The Avatar of the Creep features two mechanics that make him a rather challenging boss.  First, he carries the Toxic Secretion, Airborne Violence, Fungal Remaking and Appalling Bloom effect.  These combine to give him a series of benefits, including:

  1. A substantial self heal over time, only dispelled by placing 10-corrupted stacks on him.
  2. His critical hits create a pool of damage
  3. He counters any hinders with poisons
  4. When he successfully blocks, he cleanses any debuffs on him
For the party, this means that you should never bring hinders to this fight.  Additionally, someone in your party needs to have a corrupted weakened ability that can be regularly spammed.  Additionally, you want your party to have as many penetrate abilities or stats as possible to minimize blocks.  Even so, the Avatar of the Creep remains a complicated beast to beat down!

It is recommended that you have multiple party members who can apply corrupted during this fight.  Because he dispells so frequently, you need to get back to 10-stacks as fast as possible. If only one person can apply corrupted, you are unlikely to get 10-effects up before the next one lands. However, if two or three party members are applying corrupted builders, you can get to 10-stacks in as few as 3 combat rounds.

Summoning information for Avatar of the Creep

Spoiler:

  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Mu 03]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Sigma 03]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Eta 09]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Phi 08]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Sigma 05]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Lambda 08]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Beta 02]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Delta 09]
  • [Summoning Ritual Fragment: Nu 06]

Note, in our video we do NOT have all of the right abilities in play.  We needed spam corruption and we have a few too many blocks occuring (clearing the debuffs we are landing).  However, the Avatar of Creep does not dish out significant damage, so you can overpower him given time.

Nyalat, Royal Executioner

Nyalat, Royal Executioner

City of the Sun God Lair Boss

Combat Guide, post 1.2 lair revision

Nyalat, Royal Executioner is a lair boss in the City of the Sun God.  His summoning pattern is associated with the Citadel of Pain lair quest.

He uses the mummy beast model and fights using tactics common to that type of creature (stuns, 180-degree frontal sweeps, etc.).  As with all lair bosses, Nyarlat, Royal Executioner was upgraded in Content Patch 1.2, Digging Deeper.  He is now a 5-person group encounter, this guide covers the updated version of Nyarlat, Royal Executioner.

This fight is a DPS race.  Nyarlat has two mechanics that each impact your time in fight.  First, he has a non-purgable buff, Death Sentence.  This mechanic causes Nyarlat, Royal Executioner to build up a large, severe damage attack.  We don’t know what happens if it goes off, but it doesn’t sound good!

You get 2-minutes to beat Nyarlat.  He also accumulates the Embalmed Evil effect, causing him to get more powerful as the fight carries on.

Aspect of the Long-Toothed

Aspect of the Long-Toothed

Regional Boss – Solomon Island Lair

The Aspect of the Long-Toothed is the Regional Boss for the Solomon Island lairs.  Summoning this boss requires patterns from each of the bosses associated with the three Solomon Island lairs.  As with all lair content, the Aspect was re-worked as part of the 1.2 content update, Digging Deeper.  The Aspect is now tuned to require a full group of elite (QL10 Blue) geared players.

The Aspect of the Long-Toothed is summoned in the Blue Mountain lair.  You can find his summoning ring on the NE side of the lair up a long set of concrete stairs.  His ring is on the floor before the topmost floor.  The Aspect of the Long-Toothed summoning area is locked to a 5-person encounter.  Any additional players in the area will be kicked out of the area upon summoning.  There is a window which you can use to observe the fight from the outside.

The Aspect of the Long-Toothed is a guardian mob and features mechanics common to Guardian wolves.  He breathes a cone filth attack (which can be impaired) and also drops impair puddles that remain throughout the fight.  The damage is relatively low in this fight, simply move him around to stay out of the filth puddles.

The Aspect of the Long-Toothed has a stacked buff providing him a physical ward which requires critical hits to remove.  Slot some critical rating and you’ll whittle it down quickly.

It is possible that there is an agro wipe in this fight.  He cast the ability “Hounded” and then tracked one of our players for quite a while.  Looking at the video (see below), there is a debuff on this player throughout the agro loss.  When the debuff dropped, agro was reacquired quickly.  This was not a DPS based agro loss.

Loot from the Aspect of the Long-Toothed typically involves:

  • A Sack of Teeth (open this to recover some of your summoning patterns)
  • Purple talisman and glyphs (10.0, can’t be upgraded)
  • Purple signets (this is the reason you are doing lairs)
  • World boss summoning pattern – Confirmed Head

Lives on Snakes

Lives on Snakes

Lair Boss

Scorched Desert

Lives on Snakes is a lair boss, located in the Scorched Desert playfield of the Secret World.  Lives on Snakes is the pattern reward boss for the quest Blood Garments added in Content patch 1.3, the Cat God.

Of the three bosses in Scorched Desert, he is potentially the hardest, having a mechanic making the fight progressively harder.  Lives on Snakes uses two basic mechanics throughout the fight:

  1. He has a series of ground targeted AOE’s.  Keep your eyes at your feet and be ready to move about.
  2. More importantly, though, he gains a stacking buff (Ungirthed) over the course of the fight.  This buff makes him progressively stronger and harder to heal.

The Ungirthed buff lists as being able to remove via obstruction.  We can not, at this time, figure out how that should happen.  There are summoning urns up in the ritual area, but you can’t track him past those.  Additionally, we tried pulling him down the stairs to break line of sight.  That didn’t work.  He is also highly resistant to impairs and you can not purge the stacking buff.

At this time, it is best to consider this a DPS race.
