Steps 1-20: Besieged Farmlands and Shadowy Forests

The Story prior - Virgula Divina

Mortal Sins is the final story-arc for the launch version of the Secret World.  Players are investigating Orochi interest in the research of the mysterious Red Hand.  A Council of Venice delegate introduces players initially to the Besieged Farmlands which is currently overrun by a Vampire and Ghoul army.  As the story unfolds, players discover that there is much more to the legend of Dracula than you find in Bram Stoker!  This TSW Guide, as with all of our guides, uses spoiler text so that players only receive help on the step they are currently working.

Mortal Sins: Step 1

“Find Carmen Preda of the Council of Venice.”

 Mortal Sins: Step 2

“Enter the village of Harbaburesti.”  Around 1039, 1051 the quest changes to “Go to the Taverna and search for stories.”  After the cut-scene you are given the message “Search the village for the friendly owl.”

 Mortal Sins: Step 3

“Follow the owl.”  The quest updates with a VERY long cut-scene at 948, 557.  “Find the girl with the spyglass watching over the Besieged Farmlands.”

Mortal Sins: Step 4

“Find out more about Transylvania from Zaha.” 

You learn that the Dracula are the Order of the Dragon hinted at by the Owl.  The quest updates to “Find the circus man in the Forest.”  Your quest takes you to Mihas located in Shadowy Forests (right near Besieged Farmlands zone line) “Ask Mihas about the Romany.”

“Go see Milosh.”  You get a lot of backstory from Milosh.

 Mortal Sins: Step 6

“Go to the place where the Draculesti were founded.”  Head west to the ancient city.  “Look for the Draculesti prophecy.”

Go up the stairs at 262, 749.  Follow the wooden walkway to the quest location.  Quest updates to “Kill the Architect.”  The diary mentions that a key is hidden in the village.

“Find the key.” 

Need Help finding a Key?
The key is on a table at 215, 945.  Quest updates to “Look for records of the tomb.”  There are records in an old chapel at 293, 837.  Quest updates to “Find the crypt behind the chapel.”  Enter the grave at 790, 543.  There is a solo-boss mob out front of the graveyard that can be very difficult.  Use weakened effects and avoid his ground damage.  The quest updates to “examine  the tomb.”

“Find someone who can interpret the document.”

This turns out to be Anastasia just east of the Romany camp.  She has extensive information about Dracula and his role in this incident.  The quest updates.

“Go to the tree of life.”  This is the Agartha entrance in Shadowy Forests.  The quest updates to “Find the source of the stream.”

Need Help finding the Source?
There is a stream which winds around the back of the tree.  Follow it upstream.  You will lose the stream in a set of pipes, but you can pick It up again at 1135, 875.

“Activate the source.”

This is the source of LIFE.  You need to spell LIFE.  But, Vlad didn’t speak English!.  You are looking at a set of Romanian letters.  You need to spell out life in Romanian.  Viata.  viaţă

“Find a representation of death.”  The quest updates to “Examine the statue of death.”

“Find the water of death.” 

Need Help finding the Water of Death?
You can’t interact with dead things while you are alive!  Suicide using /reset and you will see pilgrims following  the water.  Follow them, this takes you into a cave complex at 1014, 497.  The water is at 1047, 311.

“Find the Dragon’s Tomb.”  This is in the graveyard, in the Chapel of the Prince, at 783, 575.  Activate it and jump in. “Enter the Dragon’s Tomb.”

After zoning into the instance, the quest updates to “Join the waters of life and death.”

“Gather the water with Dracula’s egg to capture the essence.”

Move around in the glowing water for the update.

Mortal Sins: Step 15

“Take a rubbing of the Eagle on the wall.”  The Eagle is NOT lit up, click on the scripture.  The quest updates to “Talk to Milosh about the Eagle.”

Mortal Sins: Step 16

“Find Octavian’s cabin.” The cabin is near 315, 477.  The quest updates to “Ask the old man about the Eagle.”  Octavian isn’t highly motivated.

“Look for something to persuade Octavian.”  There is a letter on a nearby table.

“Find Emilia.”  

NOTE:  This step can bug if you are grouped.  If you want to view the cut-scene, you MUST drop group before going further.

 Mortal Sins: Step 19

“Kill a boar.”  “Place the fresh meat near Emilia.”  “Watch as Emilia is attacked and hope the plan works.”

 Mortal Sins: Step 20

“Go back to Dracula’s tomb.”  Entering the tomb updates the quest to “Gather Dracula’s essence.”  You can now “use” the water.  When you do, the egg in the center of the room activates.  The quest advances.

London Underground

London Underground: Templar Faction Mission

Full Walk-through

London Underground is the final Templar faction story.  It involves the retrieval of an ancient Roman artifact from a Roman temple.  Conveniently, this Temple of Mithra happens to be right in London, Underground even!  This TSW Guide, as with all of our guides, uses spoiler text.  Simply reveal the box for the help you need without spoiling the rest of the quest!

London Underground: Step 1

“Meet with Dame Julia.”  You get an interesting story about bad things happening underground in an abandoned temple of Mithra.  “Enter the Mithraeum.”

“Use the Templars arms chache.  Take defence turrets from the Templars arms cache.” 

You find the cache in a room with three entrances.  There is a barricade along the back wall with the crate.  Opening the crate gives you six land mines and two turrets.

 “Prepare a defence.”

You are going to have a ring event with multiple waves.  You will get a set of four Templar defenders.  Placing your turrets and landmines well is helpful.

Need Help with the defense?
You have to defend three entry ways.  Ideally, you want the turrets in a position where they can cross-fire groups coming in from any of the doors. I placed my mines in a pattern in front of one of the doors.  While this worked, in retrospect, I might choose to place my mines in out of the way places.  At various points in the fight, you will get powerful Dragon and Illuminati attackers.  You could pull those guys over the mine to take them out easier.  However, the main thing is getting a good cross-fire from your turrets.

I noticed that the turrets won’t activate unless they are initially frontal to the fight.  Once active, they will cycle in circles.  So, position the turrets so they get a cross-fire and have frontal access to all three doors.

This is an endurance fight.  You need to outlast the enemy.  An advanced survival build will work.  I completed the step in my elite tanking build, with Consequence slotted instead of Call for Eris.  Now that Karma is fixed, I would probably go with that.

“Defend your position.”

Stay alive.  Use potions as you need, train mobs into your Templar counterparts and pull the hard mobs into the land mines.

 London Underground: Tier 2

“Claim the sword.”

The sword is on the wall right behind where you picked up the armaments.  Good job!

 London Underground: Tier 3

“Meet with Dame Julia.”

That’s it.  Nothing else for now.  London Underground ends with a bit of a whimper.  There is no real information as to the importance of the sword you recover.  It is worth speculating though.  Recall that at the end of Dawning of an Endless Night and also at Black Sun, Red Sands, a powerful weapon was found – and ultimately lost.  Cassie walked off with the sword and the Orochi have the Pharaoh’s halberd.  At least the Templar got to keep this sword!

Virgula Divina: Templar Faction Quest

The Previous Chapter in the City of the Sun Gods

Virgula Divina is the Templar interlude quest between Egypt’s Black Sun, Red Sands and Romania’s Mortal Sin story line quest.  Just a brief note up front – I really, really enjoyed this quest.  Kudos to the writers.  The quest involves exploration of a destroyed Orochi research facility in London.  The quest is high on spookiness!  As with all of our TSW Guides, our Virgula Divina guide features spoiler text.  By revealing the text for the help portion you need, you avoid spoiling the rest of the quest!

 Virgula Divina: Step 1

“Report to Richard Sonnac.”  Richard complains overtly about the Orochi group.  Their meddling and incompetence seem to trigger all sorts of problems.  Their access and influence presents doing anything about them.  Richard even pays the Illuminati a veiled compliment as worthy rivals.  He asks you to look into the Orochi.  You are sent to the Horned God.

You speak to Konrad Engel and Zamira Vata.  Konrad lost his place on the council by questing Orochi activity.  He informs you there is an Orochi building right here in London.

Virgula Divina: Step 2

“Find the front for the Vali institution.”

The Orochi entrance is downstairs at 213, 391.  “Search the construction area for a way to bend the bars.”  You find a crowbar at 198, 384.  “Pry open the barred window.”

Upon entry you are told “Investigate the Amity house.”  Go through the cracked window (something bad is afoot).  “Find he first clue to unlock the door.”  There is a keypad at the door.  Use the class photo on the wall to the right of the door.  This shows you a picture of young girls.

 “Find the second clue to unlock the door.”  Check the bookshelf.  Each book you click triggers a cut-scene with a baby.  The wrong book gets a “no.”

The correct book is on shelf 13.  “All the things one has forgotten scream for help in dreams.  Jenna.”

“Find the third clue to unlock the door.”

The third clue is actually the photo on the wall.  If you watch it long enough, a girl appears in the top left corner (a whoosh sound happens in the room).  Look at the photo as soon as she appears.

“Leave the playroom.”

Need help with the password?

Jenna’s password is 3433.

 “Find out why Vali was observing the Playroom.” 

As you come around the corner, you see a small child run off.  Follow her upstairs.  You see her run off again as you come up the stairs.  She runs through a set of Orochi equipment, you have to go the other way.  In the Orochi control room, you find a very messy scene.  At the foot of one dead body is a paper, pick it up.  A very creepy message ends the story “2789 is manifesting again, isolate until she learns.”  There is also a reference to sisters being separated.

 “Search the office level for further data.”  Follow the destruction into the Orochi offices.  You want the offices of Dr. Harrison Conrad, Ph.D.  His office has several pictures that can be inspected and a computer.

One of the pictures is at Jack and Wendy’s bed and breakfast in Kingsmouth.  Dr. Conrad has a Doberman Pincer in the picture.  Try to use Conrad’s computer.  Use option #1.  This gives you the input “Facility Layout.”

“Find Dr. Conrad’s password to access the floor plans.”  Password hint is “My best friend.”

Go back to the observatory room.  In addition to the dead bodies, there is a computer terminal that can be lit up.  Once activated you see six security cameras.  Two have a dog.  Click on all you can for some spooky fun!  Camera 4 has what you are looking for, a dog sitting by a bowl.  The bowl has the name “Eugene.”

“Enter the Hidden Laboratory.” 

Yep, it just keeps getting creepier.  “Defeat the entity.”  On the far side of the room is a surgical saw, pick it up!  So, this fight is rather interesting.  You can’t actually hit her.

Need Help defeating the entity?
You have to hide from her fireballs.  There are two spots in the room that can be safe.  One is behind a set of walls, immediately to your left as you enter.  The other is behind stacked tables on the far left side of the room.  If the entity can see you, she can hit you.  You have to be out of line of sight to dodge the fireballs.

 Need Help Defeating the Spirit?
After dodging a few (and she moves around each time), a purple circle appears in the center of the room.  Stepping into it puts you into a spirit void.  This lets you interact with shackles on the girls body (laying on table to your left from entrance).  Once you unlock two shackles, you get a cut-scene.  I had to go through a few phases of hide and seek before I got two shackles undone.

“Talk to Callie James.”  This is Galahad’s squire in the park.

“Return to Richard Sonnac.”  Vampires and an Orochi lab in danger, sign me up!  Who is Carmen?

“Travel to Transylvania through Agartha.”  Simply entering Translyvania ends this quest and starts the next one.
